What is the award, given annually by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) for contributions to computer science, widely considered the Nobel Prize in Computing? Last prize in 2025 was given to Charles Bennett and Gilles Brassard for their work in quantum information science. The first was awarded in 1966 to Alan Perlis for advanced programming techniques and compiler construction.


Answer to yesterday's post: Stigler's law of eponymy. Interestingly the law itself is even an example of Stigler's law. Stephen Stigler actually attributes the law to sociologist Robert K. Merton. The principle of eponymy being used to attribute the messenger over the source, had been described earlier by many scholars, including Stephen Stigler's own dad, economist George Stigler.
